Bobby Cannavale will appear in a guest star role in the upcoming “Man on Fire” series adaptation at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.
The eight-episode series is based on the A.J. Quinnell novel of the same name, which was the first of Quinnell’s novels to feature the character Marcus Creasy.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star in the series as Creasy, “once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD,” per the official logline. “Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But, before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”

Cannavale will play Paul Rayburn, described as an “ex-Special Forces soldier who possesses a unique ability to read people. He is charming, nurturing, and protective of those he cares for. Despite his warm, fatherly nature, his years of service in the field have given him an acute awareness of violence and human behavior. Quick-witted and incredibly intellectual, he is likely to have all the answers, and if not, he will find them.”
Cannavale’s past TV credits include the hit Netflix series “The Watcher,” “Nine Perfect Strangers” at Hulu, “Homecoming” at Amazon, “Mr. Robot” at USA Network, and “Nurse Jackie” at Showtime. He has won two Emmy Awards to date — one as a guest star in “Will & Grace” in 2005 and another for best supporting actor in “Boardwalk Empire” in 2013. He was also nominated twice for his work in “Nurse Jackie” for best guest actor in a comedy. In film, Cannavale can currently be seen in both “Ezra” and “Maxxine.” His other roles include “The Irishman,” “Old Dads,” “Blonde,” “I, Tonya,” “Chef,” “Blue Jasmine,” and “The Station Agent.”
He is repped by CAA and Framework Entertainment.
Kyle Killen is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner on “Man on Fire” via Chapter Eleven, with Scott Pennington also executive producing. Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann executive produce for New Regency Productions. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Tracey Cook executive produce for Chernin Entertainment, along with Steven Caple Jr., Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire, Abdul-Mateen II, and Stacy Perskie, who will executive produce for RedRum. Caple will also direct the first two episodes.
